Parsons Commercial Technology, Charlotte, N.C., acquired META Associates, Louisville, Ky., for undisclosed terms, seeking a stronger presence and better brand awareness in the healthcare engineering field. Meta is one of the nation's oldest and largest healthcare design, building and project management firms. With the acquisition, Parsons -- which works on project management and design of facilities largely outside healthcare -- is better positioned to capture a sizable portion of future healthcare action, said Chuck Harrington, Parsons group president. The demand for healthcare facilities is expected to soar as the nation's population ages. Doug Heisler, senior vice president of the new Parsons-META, said the deal gives META access to the technological advances Parsons has made over the past 50 years, "a number of those that can be adapted to the healthcare market." In addition, META gains a better international presence and the ability to work faster and on more projects, Heisler said. -- by Matthew DoBias
