Brunswick County Hospital Authority, Supply, N.C., chose not-for-profit Novant Health, Winston-Salem, N.C., to replace for-profit HCA as the operator of the county's hospital, Novant said. The authority hopes to wrap up a final agreement and have Novant operating Brunswick County Hospital by March. HCA had leased the hospital since the mid-1980s, but the authority sought other operators after complaints from physicians that HCA was slow to make capital improvements. For-profit chains Essent Healthcare and Community Health Systems also made presentations to the authority after a request-for-proposal process. Not-for-profit Carolinas Health System, Charlotte, N.C., submitted a proposal but was not asked to make a presentation. -- by Vince Galloro
