Three-hospital Eastern Health System and St. Vincent's Hospital, both based in Birmingham, Ala., said they will consolidate into a regional system within 18 months, pending federal antitrust approval. Financial terms were not disclosed. Eastern and St. Vincent's, a member of Ascension Health, have been discussing a merger for several months. Earlier this year, Eastern agreed to be managed by a St. Vincent's affiliate, Seton Health Corp., which will serve as the holding company for the merged system. -- by Michael Romano
