Infirmary Health System, Mobile, Ala., will pay $32 million over 30 years to lease 122-bed Knollwood Park Hospital, also in Mobile, from the University of South Alabama beginning April 1. The deal is part of an alliance announced in July that includes collaboration on a new cancer research institute in downtown Mobile. Infirmary sold the university the land on which the new $40 million research center will be built, adjacent to the university's Children's and Women's Hospital and Infirmary's 510-bed flagship, Mobile Infirmary Medical Center. Construction will begin within the next several weeks, and the center is expected to open in late 2007. -- by Michael Romano
