Whites still occupy the vast majority of medical schools' faculty spots across the U.S. Of the 114,087 medical school faculty members as of Dec. 31, 2004, about 72%--or 82,056--were white, according to the Association of American Medical College's Minorities in Medical Education: Facts and Figures 2005. Only about 7.2% were black, Hispanic or Native American, the survey found.
