Pediatricians ranked second behind primary-care physicians in the number of visits from drug marketers for the quarter ended in August, according to a survey by Whitehouse, N.J.-based Health Products Research. The survey of more than 2,300 physicians found that pediatricians received about 2.9 million sales calls from drug companies. Primary-care physicians received approximately 11 million calls; psychiatrists ranked third in popularity with about 2 million calls. The three top therapeutic categories being promoted by the drug marketers were antibiotics, hyperactivity disorder stimulants and inhaled nasal steroids.
