Hanson and May joined HealthSouth's board in September 2002 and were the only current board members--except former CEO and founder Richard Scrushy--who predate the disclosure of a $2.6 billion accounting fraud in early 2003. ... Timothy Martin, 48, has been named president and CEO of Cardiovascular Services of America, Brentwood, Tenn., and is expected to leave his post as COO of Nashville-based Renal Care Group once it completes its sale to Germany-based Fresenius Medical Care, a deal that's expected to close before year-end. Cardiovascular Services of America's current chief, John Dayani, will keep the title of founding CEO and vice chairman and will assist Martin.
Gordon Docking has been named CEO of St. Joseph Medical Center, Kansas City, Mo., part of Carondelet Health. Docking, 50, replaces Michele Schaefer, who left to take the position of senior vice-president of St. John's Health System and CEO of St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Mo. Docking was most recently CEO of Carondelet's St. Mary's Medical Center in Blue Springs, Mo. ... Kenneth Lukhard has been appointed president of Advocate Christ Medical Center and Advocate Hope Children's Hospital in Oak Lawn, Ill. Lukhard, 52, replaces Carol Schneider, who left in April. Lukhard was most recently president of SSM Health Care's St. Mary's Health Center, Richmond Heights, Mo. ... Daniel Aranda resigned as CEO of Glades General Hospital, Belle Glade, Fla., after just 14 months on the job. Aranda, 55, was replaced on an interim basis by Ron Wiewora, chief medical officer of the Health Care District of Palm Beach County, which owns the facility. ... New Island Hospital in Bethpage, N.Y., has named Stephen Neff its new president and CEO. Neff, 47, replaced Paul Seale, who resigned. Neff was previously senior vice president and CFO at Union Hospital in Elkton, Md. ... Norton Healthcare Executive Vice President Russell Cox has added COO to his title. Cox, 47, had been vice president of support services for the five-hospital system based in Louisville, Ky. ... Mike Stuart has been named to the new post of vice president of finance of five-hospital Daughters of Charity Health System, Los Altos Hills, Calif. Stuart, 27, has been the system's director of financial services since 2003. ... University of North Texas Health Science Center President Ronald Blanck says he will retire once a successor is chosen. Blanck, 64, has led the Fort Worth, Texas, facility for five years, but wants to move to the East Coast to be near family. ... Texas Health Resources, Arlington, has named new COOs for two of its largest hospitals. Terry Akin will join Harris Methodist Fort Worth (Texas) as senior vice president and COO, a new post. Akin, 42, had been vice president of operations at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, another Texas Health Resources facility. Meanwhile, Sandra Harris has been promoted to COO of Arlington (Texas) Memorial Hospital from senior vice president. ... Jack Gorman has been named president and psychiatrist in chief of McLean Hospital, a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School in Belmont, Mass., and chairman of Partners Psychiatry and Mental Health, part of Boston-based Partners HealthCare. Gorman, 54, replaces Bruce Cohen at McLean, who will stay on as director of its Shervert Frazier Research Institute. At Partners Psychiatry he replaces Gary Gottlieb, president of Brigham and Women's Hospital, who will concentrate on his hospital duties. Gorman has been a professor of psychiatry and neuroscience at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York.
The board of the National Rural Health Association, Kansas City, Mo., elected Alan Morgan CEO of the 10,000-member advocacy group, changing the top title from executive director. Morgan, 38, has been vice president of government affairs and policy at the NRHA since February 2001 and its interim executive director since the beginning of this year, following the resignation of Steve Wilhide.
