A bill to extend for two years federal aid to help low-income Medicare beneficiaries pay Part B premiums awaits President Bush's signature after passing the Senate by unanimous voice vote. The bill would provide about $400 million a year in premium aid in 2006 and 2007 and eliminate Medicare and Medicaid coverage of impotence drugs, saving an estimated $690 million over five years. It also includes about $500 million in grants to help pay unemployment benefits in states hit by Hurricane Katrina. -- by Tony Fong
