Kindred Healthcare, Louisville, Ky., said it plans to open two new freestanding long-term acute-care hospitals in the first quarter of 2007. Project costs were not disclosed. Kindred said it will build a 60-bed facility in Richmond, Va. The second hospital, in Greenwood, Ind., will have 60 long-term acute-care beds and 40 subacute beds and will replace a 46-bed hospital in Indianapolis. Both hospitals require regulatory approval. As of June 30, Kindred operated 73 long-term acute-care hospitals, 248 nursing centers and 38 pharmacies. -- by Joseph Mantone
