Triad Hospitals, Plano, Texas, and Malulani Health Systems, Wailuku, Hawaii, agreed on a joint venture to build a 150-bed hospital on Maui at an estimated cost of $211.8 million. Triad will own 80% of the venture and Malulani the remainder. Malulani said it will start a campaign to raise the $40 million it will contribute to the construction of the hospital. The proposal has been submitted to state Health Planning and Development Agency for approval. The hospital, Malulani Health and Medical Center, Kihei, would be expected to open in 2009.
