Spectrum Health, Grand Rapids, Mich., plans to build a $190 million, 197-bed children's hospital on its main campus scheduled to open in 2010. The seven-hospital system said the design of the new Helen DeVos Children's Hospital will allow expansion to 242 beds to consolidate pediatric services now provided at Spectrum's DeVos Children's Hospital. Spectrum intends to apply for a certificate of need for the project in early 2006 and break ground later in the year. The new hospital's namesake is the wife of billionaire Richard DeVos, who helped found Alticor, formerly Amway. -- by Mark Taylor
