Large employers will see their healthcare costs rise 8% in 2006, or $597 per employee, according to an annual report by Towers Perrin.
That's about the same as in 2005, but less than the double-digit increases of the past several years.
The report charts healthcare costs at 204 large employers across the country.
Employers' average total costs per employee climbed 140% over the past decade. Employers continue to pay the majority of healthcare costs for employees, about 80% of the total, according to the report.
Employees' costs for healthcare coverage, meanwhile, will rise an average of about 10% in 2006, compared with a 12% increase this year.
