Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, will be closed to all but essential personnel from Thursday through Sunday due to the expected impact of Hurricane Rita, officials said. As a result, orientation will be postponed until Oct. 1 for students at Tulane University School of Medicine, which had relocated its administrative offices to Baylor in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Baylor's emergency management plan is fully operational. Meanwhile, college leaders and key personnel will remain on campus to respond to any emergencies while the storm affects the Houston area, officials said. CNN reported that Hurricane Rita reached Category 5 status with maximum sustained winds of 165 miles per hour. -- by Cinda Becker
