Iasis Healthcare, Franklin, Tenn., said it is cooperating with a subpoena from the HHS inspector general's office seeking records dating back to 1999 on contractual arrangements between physicians and the system's hospitals. The arrangements include leases, medical directorships and recruitment agreements, according to Iasis, which owns or operates 14 hospitals in five states. HHS in January offered new guidance to hospitals about their contractual arrangements with physicians. Federal authorities also are investigating relationships between physicians and Tenet Healthcare Corp. hospitals in California, Louisiana, Tennessee and Texas. -- by Vince Galloro
