Six pediatric orthopedic surgeons resigned from Nemours, a pediatric provider in Jacksonville, Fla., to join competitor Orlando (Fla.) Regional Healthcare. Nemours recently announced plans to build a children's hospital in Orlando, with or without Orlando Regional as a partner.
Nemours will temporarily stop offering orthopedic services after the surgeons depart until it recruits replacements, spokeswoman Laura Guitar said. Talks regarding a partnership on the children's hospital continue, Guitar said.
Orlando Regional also plans an expansion. In mid-March, the system said it would add a 273-bed tower to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Women.
Spokesman Joe Brown said the six pediatric specialists were not actively recruited. They will join the system's medical education department in mid-October, he said.
