Aaron Beam, the first chief financial officer of Birmingham, Ala.-based HealthSouth Corp., was sentenced to three months in jail today by a U.S. District judge in Birmingham. Beam was also fined $10,000 and ordered to forfeit $275,000. Although Beam was facing up to 30 years in jail and fines of $1 million after pleading guilty to bank fraud, government lawyers had requested leniency because he provided investigators with information about accounting fraud at the company. Beam was one of five CFOs to plead guilty and testify against former HealthSouth Chief Executive Officer Richard Scrushy, who was acquitted in June. All four of the other CFOs await sentencing or appeals on their sentences. -- by Joseph Mantone
