Pharmacy benefits manager Express Scripts, St. Louis, will acquire specialty pharmacy and distributor Priority Healthcare Corp., Orlando, Fla., for $1.3 billion. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter. The addition of Priority will make CuraScript, Express Scripts' specialty pharmacy subsidiary, one of the nation's largest with more than $3 billion in annual revenue, Express Scripts said. Specialty pharmaceuticals are the fastest-growing component of prescription-drug spending, totaling approximately $35 billion in 2004 and expected to exceed $70 billion in 2008, officials said. CuraScript's product line will be especially strong in oncology, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, hepatitis, fertility, hemophilia, asthma, pulmonary hypertension and psoriasis, officials said. -- by Cinda Becker
