President Bush asked for nearly $2 billion in additional funding to help the Veterans Affairs Department cover healthcare costs.
The request includes $300 million for fiscal 2005 and about $1.7 billion for fiscal 2006.
In the past month, the House voted to give the VA $975 million more in 2005 for veterans healthcare, while the Senate approved a $1.5 billion funding increase after the VA discovered it had undercalculated its needs.
The VA's fiscal 2005 budget is $69.8 billion without the additional funding.
The Bush administration said the Iraqi conflict had increased demand for veterans healthcare.
