David Zechman has been promoted to president of four-hospital Jewish Hospital Health Network and senior vice president of parent Jewish Hospital HealthCare Services, Louisville, Ky. Zechman, 49, had been vice president of Jewish Hospital and CEO of Jewish Hospital Rudd Heart and Lung Center. Zechman replaces Robert Shircliff, who recently became president and CEO of the parent company. Zechman had already accepted the CEO post of the soon-to-be constructed Texas Heart Hospital of the Southwest, Plano, when he received the promotion offer. ... Rodney Reider has been named CEO of not-for-profit Chestnut Hill Health System, Philadelphia, replacing Cary Leptuck, who retired after the sale earlier this year of Chestnut Hill to Community Health Systems, Brentwood, Tenn. Reider had been CEO of Mercy Franciscan Hospital-Mount Airy, Cincinnati. ... Leslie Hirsch, 52, has been named president and CEO of Touro Infirmary in New Orleans, effective Aug. 22. He had been president and CEO of Exempla St. Joseph Hospital in Denver. ... Daniel Jackson, 33, has been named CEO of HCA's Northlake Medical Center, Tucker, Ga. Jackson replaces Robbin Moore, 42, who left to become COO of JFK Medical Center in Atlantis, Fla. Jackson had been CEO of another HCA facility, Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor, Va. ... Roger Eitelman has been named the first president and CEO of West Virginia University Hospitals-East, Martinsburg. The system was created Jan. 1 by the merger of City Hospital in Martinsburg and Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va. Both became subsidiaries of West Virginia University Hospitals, Morgantown. Eitelman has been administrator of Hawaii-based St. Francis Medical Center-West in Ewa Beach, and senior vice president of its parent, St. Francis HealthCare System of Hawaii. ... Barry Mousa was named CEO of Medical Center at Lancaster (Texas). Mousa, 52, who was CEO of Fannin Regional Hospital in Blue Ridge, Ga., replaces Rob Smart, 36, who resigned. The hospital is owned by Merit Health Systems, Louisville, Ky. ... Methodist Health System, which recently broke ground on the new Methodist Mansfield (Texas) Medical Center, has named Laura Irvine, 33, a senior vice president at the Dallas-based not-for-profit health system as president of the facility. She was also promoted to executive vice president at Methodist Health. The 80-bed facility will open in December 2006. ... Michael O'Neil has been promoted to senior vice president and COO of Memorial Health System, South Bend, Ind., replacing David Sage, who retired in December. O'Neil, 44, had been vice president of Memorial's home-care division. ... Benjamin Melson has been named CFO of Texas Children's Hospital, Houston, replacing Sally Evans, who resigned last year. Melson, 45, had been CFO of the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, also located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston.
Earl Bird will retire as president and CEO of the Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council after 20 years in the post. Bird, 60, will step down in June 2006 after a transition to new leadership. The council represents 140 hospitals and healthcare organizations in the eight-county region.
The Picker Institute, Boston, has named Margaret O'Kane, 57, to its board of directors. O'Kane is president of the National Committee for Quality Assurance, Washington. Picker sponsors research and education in the fields of patient-centered care and measures patients' experiences with the healthcare system. O'Kane was recently named one of the 25 Most Powerful Women in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare (April 18, p. 6).
Group Health Cooperative, Seattle, has promoted Ernie Hood to chief information officer from director of Internet development and health plan systems. Hood, 48, replaces Janice Newell, who resigned.
Hospice provider VistaCare, Scottsdale, Ariz., announced the resignation of Executive Vice President Carla Davis Hughes, 33, who was said to be pursuing other interests but will remain available to the company as a consultant. David Elliot, VistaCare's president and COO, will fill the post, which deals with public policy and strategic marketing, while a search is conducted.
