Renal Care Group, Nashville, acquired Bay Area Mobile Apheresis Program, San Francisco, a privately held blood-transfusion company. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Dobri Kiprov, founder and principal owner of Bay Area Mobile, was named medical director and senior vice president of a Renal Care subsidiary, Apheresis Care Group. There were no layoffs among Bay Area Mobile's 25 full- and part-time employees, Kiprov said. Apheresis is a technique to selectively remove blood components, such as plasma, that may be diseased or healthy and needed for donation. The $4 billion purchase of Renal Care by German company Fresenius Medical Care, announced in May, is pending. -- by Melanie Evans
