U.S. Oncology, Houston, will launch a pharmaceutical distribution business for its oncology practices in fall, integrating purchasing, storage and distribution of nearly $1.6 billion in drugs for about 470 sites. The cancer-care company said it expects the in-house distribution business to reduce costs through waste tracking, inventory management and operational efficiencies. The company also said buying products directly from manufacturers instead of outside distributors would prevent counterfeiting and improve patient safety. The distribution center will be located near Fort Worth, Texas. -- by Cinda Becker
