A group developing a certification process for healthcare information technology products -- the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology -- said seven healthcare organizations had committed to giving it more than $100,000 in unrestricted funding. The organizations are HCA, Sutter Health, McKesson Corp., United Health Foundation, WellPoint, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American College of Physicians. The commission said it plans to hold a series of 60-minute conference calls between July 12 and 21 to publicize its efforts and obtain suggestions from various stakeholders in certification development. The commission was formed by the American Health Information Management Association, the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society and the National Alliance for Health Information Technology. -- by Andis Robeznieks
