University of Maryland Medical System is seeking state approval for a $403 million expansion of outpatient services at its Baltimore campus. The 607-bed hospital filed with the Maryland Health Care Commission to build a nine-story building for ambulatory surgery, cardiac services and cancer care, among other services, said Pam Barclay, the commission's deputy director for health resources. Hospital officials were not available at deadline. The Baltimore Business Journal reported that the application was preliminary and could be revised. -- by Tony Fong
