Welcome to our third annual supplement profiling the winners of the CEO IT Achievement Award, sponsored by Modern Healthcare and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. On the following pages, youll meet the three winners for 2005.
They are Joel Allison, president and chief
executive officer of the Baylor Health Care
System in Dallas; George Halvorson, chairman
and CEO of Kaiser Foundation Health
Plan and Hospitals in Oakland, Calif.; and
Mark Neaman, president and CEO of
Evanston (Ill.) Northwestern Healthcare.
The award, created in 2003 by Modern
Healthcare and HIMSS, recognizes one or
more healthcare industry CEOs who demonstrate
leadership and a commitment to using
information technology to advance their
organizations strategic goals.
Allison, Halvorson and Neaman are the
sixth, seventh and eighth recipients, respectively,
of the award. Three executives were
honored in 2004 and two in 2003.
A five-member panel of judgestwo
CEOs chosen by Modern Healthcare and three
chief information officers chosen by
HIMSSselected the trio from a pool of 62
nominees, up from 44 in 2004 and 51 in 2003.
