Huron Consulting Group, Chicago, has acquired interim and crisis management consulting firm Speltz & Weis for $17 million, plus additional payments if performance targets are met. Speltz & Weis led Crouse Hospital, Syracuse, N.Y., out of bankruptcy and now manages St. Vincent Catholic Medical Centers, New York. Huron said the acquisition would give it the resources to become a full-service healthcare consultant. Speltz & Weis has a team of approximately 30 consultants. Huron, which became a public company in October 2004, posted $159.6 million in total revenue in 2004. The acquisition will have no impact on the consulting relationship at St. Vincent, a hospital spokesman said. -- by Cinda Becker
