William Bithoney, M.D., has been named physician in chief, a newly created position, at seven-hospital St. Vincent Catholic Medical Centers in New York.
In his new position, Bithoney will oversee the quality and performance improvement programs at St. Vincent, assist in recruitment of medical directors and clinical department chairpersons and, with them, create a medical staff development plan, the hospital group said in a news statement.
Also appointed vice dean of the New York Medical College, Bithoney will serve as a liaison between the college and St. Vincent.
Bithoney had been chief medical officer at five-hospital Mercy Health System based in Philadelphia. He is a graduate of Yale University Medical School and completed his internship and residency in pediatrics at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
