A trial in Minnesota Attorney General Mike Hatch's lawsuit against not-for-profit insurer Medica, Minnetonka, Minn., is scheduled to begin July 18, after a state court judge in Minneapolis rejected Medica's request for a dismissal. Hatch claims the insurer acted "contrary to its status" as a not-for-profit organization "under court supervision" and in violation of a memorandum of understanding with the state, according to Medica's motion to dismiss. Hatch contends that Medica paid improper bonuses to executives and failed to address service and quality problems, according to the motion. Medica spokesman Rob Longendyke said the insurer welcomes the chance to argue its case in court. -- by Melanie Evans
