Owens & Minor, Richmond, Va., named Craig Smith, 53, the firm's president and chief operating officer, to succeed G. Gilmer Minor III as chief executive officer, effective July 1. Minor, 64, has been CEO of the distributor for 21 years and is expected to continue as chairman of the publicly traded company. Minor is up for re-election, and Smith is seeking election to the board at Owens & Minor's shareholder meeting April 28. Smith will retain the president's title. The company did not name a COO to replace Smith but gave additional responsibilities to Charles Colpo, senior vice president of operations and technology, and Scott Perkins, senior vice president of sales and distribution, a spokeswoman said. -- by Melanie Evans
