Cogent Healthcare, Irvine, Calif., which provides hospitalist services, said it hired Eugene Fleming, former chief operating officer at Quorum Health Group, as its new president and chief executive officer. Bill Hamburg, who served as interim CEO, will remain as a director at Cogent. Fleming, 60, most recently was president and CEO at Surgical Alliance Corp., Nashville, which partners with physicians to own and operate ambulatory surgery centers and surgical hospitals. Besides his work at Quorum, Fleming was president of the Eastern group, covering 75 hospitals in 17 states with $3 billion in annual revenue, for HCA, Nashville. He also served as CEO at three HCA hospitals. Cogent said Fleming will primarily work out of company headquarters in Irvine but will keep a Nashville office, too. -- by Vince Galloro
