Health Management Associates, Naples, Fla., acquired 56-bed Bartow (Fla.) Memorial Hospital from LifePoint Hospitals, Brentwood, Tenn., for undisclosed terms. The Bartow hospital originally was part of a hospital swap announced last fall between HMA and LifePoint, but the deal was scuttled. The acquisition gave HMA 17 hospitals in Florida and 57 total. LifePoint owns or operates 30 hospitals, and the company expects to complete its acquisition of 21-hospital Province Healthcare Co. on April 15. Separately, Tenet Healthcare Corp., Dallas, sold four California home-health agencies and an infusion center to CareSouth Home Health Services, Augusta, Ga., for net proceeds of $6 million. -- by Vince Galloro
