The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education has created a new award to honor a single supervisory official who stands out among peers at the 8,000 residency programs represented by the Chicago-based not-for-profit association, the organization announced yesterday.
Officials are seeking nominations for the "Courage to Lead" award, which will be presented each year to one designated institutional official "who has demonstrated excellence in overseeing residency programs at his or her sponsoring institution."
A designated institutional official is responsible for all graduate medical education programs in a teaching hospital, a community hospital or any other institution that sponsors a medical residency program.
Nominations are due by June 15. Applications forms and information on the process are available at www.acgme.org.
