Lee Perlman, 46, president of GNYHA Ventures, has been elected to the board of directors of Premier hospital alliance. Perlman begins his term nearly one year after the for-profit subsidiary of the Greater New York Hospital Association signed a seven-year group purchasing contract between its affiliate, GNYHA Services, and Premier's purchasing affiliate, Premier Purchasing Partners, on behalf of more than 100 not-for-profit hospitals in New York and New Jersey. Under the terms of the new contract, the 12 New York hospital systems that were shareholders in Premier relinquished their equity stakes. Traditionally senior executives from Premier-member New York hospitals sat on Premier's board. Although there were no provisions for that in the new contract, Perlman said last year that he "would hope to be considered" for a spot on the board. Premier reimburses organizations-in this case GNYHA-for its executives' attendance at board and committee meetings, according to a Premier spokesman. Perlman's term will run through December 2007.
