Abbott Laboratories' chief executive officer, Miles White, earned a salary and bonus of $4.3 million in 2004, 28% more than in 2003, according to a company filing. White's bonus was up 54% from his 2003 bonus because of the company's higher sales, earnings per share and stock price, spokeswoman Melissa Brotz said. White also received restricted stock awards of $2.4 million and stock options with a current value of $4.5 million, the company said in its filing, based on a number of assumptions and calculations. Abbott's spinoff of its hospital supply business last year resulted in a distribution of stock of the new company, Hospira. White received shares valued at $988,250 as of the end of last year, according to the filing. -- by Crain's Chicago Business
