HealthSouth Corp., Birmingham, Ala., said it will not file its 2004 securities report until the fourth quarter of this year, as accountants continue to revise financial statements to undo massive accounting fraud at the rehabilitation company. HealthSouth has not filed a quarterly or annual securities report since the third quarter ended Sept. 30, 2002, because of the fraud, which overstated earnings by $2.64 billion. The company said it plans to file revised 10-K reports for 2000 through 2003 in the second quarter. FBI agents raided HealthSouth headquarters two years ago today, and the following day the company announced fraud probes by the Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission. The criminal fraud trial of company founder Richard Scrushy is ongoing in U.S. District Court in Birmingham. -- by Vince Galloro
