David Jones will retire as chairman of Humana, Louisville, Ky., following the insurance company's April 26 shareholders meeting. Jones, 73, has been chairman of Humana since co-founding the company as a nursing-home chain in August 1961. He also served as the company's chief executive officer until 1997. Company policy requires board members to step down at the annual shareholders meeting following their 73rd birthday. A new chairman will be elected at a board meeting that day. "David Jones' visionary leadership and commitment to excellence set the tone from the beginning for Humana's extended record of growth and success," Humana President and CEO Michael McCallister said in a news release. Humana has 7 million members in 15 states and Puerto Rico. -- by Laura B. Benko
