The National Committee for Quality Health Care named Janet Corrigan, director of the Institute of Medicine's Health Care Service Board, to replace retiring President and Chief Executive Officer Catherine McDermott.
Corrigan, 50, directed the IOM's Quality of Care in America Project, which released the seminal report "To Err is Human" in 1999. She will leave the IOM in mid-May and join the NCQHC in early June. Meanwhile, McDermott will remain with the organization until May 31.
Corrigan said her priorities at the NCQHC will include enhancing existing education and outreach programs, working collaboratively with other quality organizations and amplifying members' quality and safety efforts.
Bruce McWinney, chairman of the not-for-profit's board and senior vice president for clinical affairs at Cardinal Health, Dublin, Ohio, said Corrigan's experience and credibility will help the NCQHC maintain momentum in its efforts.
