The American Medical Group Association launched an initiative aimed at changing how medical groups are reimbursed by insurers to a more incentive-based system with a "significant" portion linked to performance on quality measures. The AMGA said a committee of experts, including Carolyn Clancy, director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, would steer the initiative. The initiative was announced at the association's meeting in Los Angeles, a four-day conference expected to draw record attendance of 1,100. The AMGA represents most of the nation's larger medical groups, about 260 in all, with about 70,000 physicians. -- by Michael Romano
