Former HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson has joined the Washington offices of the law firm of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld as a partner focusing on health. He also is joining Deloitte & Touche to become chairman of the Deloitte Center for Health Care Management and Transformation in Washington and help in developing healthcare solutions for clients.
"I look forward to working with Akin Gump and Deloitte & Touche as they each explore and develop creative solutions to healthcare challenges facing individuals, communities, governments and businesses in America and promote advances in healthcare around the world," Thompson said. "This is a great way to embark on a new career in the private sector, with two firms that have an unmatched level of expertise, global reach and influence in the healthcare field."
Thompson also recently became president of Logistics Health, a medical-readiness and homeland-security solutions firm. He was head of HHS for four years before Michael Leavitt replaced him in February. Before becoming secretary of HHS, Thompson was governor of Wisconsin from 1986 to 2001.
