Tenet Healthcare Corp., Dallas, said Brenda Gaines, a former charge-card executive, will join its board of directors effective Wednesday. Gaines, 55, retired in March 2004 as president and chief executive officer of Diners Club North America, a unit of Citigroup. Gaines held various executive jobs with Citigroup and its predecessors during a 16-year career with the company. She also has experience working in government, starting in 1970 with the U.S. Housing and Urban Development Department, where she rose to deputy regional administrator in the department's Chicago office in 1980. She also served in the administration of former Chicago Mayor Harold Washington from 1983 until his death in 1987. Her appointment to the board gives Tenet a total of 10 directors. -- by Vince Galloro
