Year-old Attentus Healthcare Co., Franklin, Tenn., completed a lease agreement to acquire its second hospital -- Lawrence County Healthcare Authority's hospital in Moulton, Ala. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The 37-bed hospital, formerly operated under a lease by Baptist Health System, Birmingham, Ala., has been renamed Lawrence Medical Center. Privately held Attentus recently acquired its first hospital, 77-bed Scott County Hospital, Oneida, Tenn., by taking over a lease from Community Health Systems, Brentwood, Tenn. Attentus has a pending deal with Community to acquire three more hospitals -- including two in Alabama.
Separately, Community said it completed the purchase of Chestnut Hill Hospital, Philadelphia, from not-for-profit Chestnut Hill HealthCare. University of Pennsylvania Health System will have a 15% interest in the hospital. Community owns or operates 71 hospitals in 22 states, pending the close of its deal with Attentus. -- by Vince Galloro
