Children's Hospital of Philadelphia has appointed Gavin Kerr executive vice president and COO. Kerr, 48, succeeds Jeffrey Rivest, who was named president and CEO of the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. Kerr had been president and CEO of Mercy Health System in Conshohocken, Pa., and a senior vice president of Catholic Health East. ... Two-hospital Jackson Health System, Miami, has promoted Steven Klein, 55, from COO to executive vice president and COO. ... Joanne Conroy has been named to the newly created post of executive vice president and COO of Morristown (N.J.) Memorial Hospital, the top job at the flagship hospital of Atlantic Health System. Conroy, 49, a physician, had been chief medical officer and vice president for academic affairs at Atlantic. ... Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage has hired Jordan Herget, 32, as its new associate administrator. He replaces Rand Kerr who became COO of St. Mark's Hospital in Salt Lake City, another HCA facility. Herget has held several posts within HCA. ... Bridget Gallagher, 39, has been promoted from vice president to senior vice president of the Community Services Division of the Jewish Home and Hospital Lifecare System, New York. ... Mike Adams, 45, has joined Dallas-based Baylor Health Care System as senior vice president and chief human resources officer. Adams, who was most recently a leader in the human resources practice at consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, replaces Venita McCellon-Allen, who left in August 2004 for a job with an Ohio utility company. ... Kenneth Wicker has joined Doctors Hospital, Augusta, Ga., as vice president/COO. Wicker, 38, replaces C. Shayne George, who was promoted to president and CEO last September. Wicker had been COO at Ocala (Fla.) Regional Medical Center. ... Jill Batty, 44, has been named senior vice president of finance and CFO of Cheshire Medical Center, Keene, N.H., and its affiliated multispecialty group practice, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene. She had held a finance post at West Penn Allegheny Health System in Pittsburgh. She replaces Arthur Nichols, who became the organizations' president and CEO.
Former Northwest Airlines CEO Richard Anderson, hired by UnitedHealth Group in November 2004 as executive vice president, was named CEO of its Ingenix unit, which manages health information for doctors and employers. Anderson replaces Kevin Pearson, who is leaving for a three-year mission with the Mormon church. ... Cynthia Demarest, 49, is the new CEO of 99,000-member Maryland Physicians Care, a Baltimore-based managed-care organization serving the city and 22 Maryland counties. The plan has 90,000 members in HealthChoice, Maryland's Medicaid managed-care program, and contracts with the state to cover 9,000 uninsured people who are otherwise uninsurable. Demarest had been CEO of Johns Hopkins/Maryland Community Healthy Systems Priority Partners, another Medicaid HMO. ... Coventry Health Care, Bethesda, Md., has hired E. Harry Creasy as senior vice president of new market development for the 2.4 million-member insurer.
Seven-hospital Daughters of Charity Health System, based in Los Altos Hills, Calif., has named Hayden Klaeveman its new vice president of quality. For Klaeveman, 61, its a return to the system after eight years in which he served as a top medical officer at Catholic Healthcare West and St. Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco. Prior to that he had practiced gastroenterology at Seton Medical Center, Daly City, Calif., a part of the Daughters system. ... Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago has promoted Dennis Murphy, 40, from director of medical affairs to vice president of medical affairs. His main task is recruitment and retention of medical staff. ... Wendy Smith has been named director of managed care for Good Shepherd Health Network, a physician-hospital organization in Longview, Texas. Smith, 39, who had been vice president of network management for Aetna in San Antonio, replaces Rebecca Burrow, who retired in October 2004.
