Few hospitals experienced better-than-normal finances in early 2004, but it wasn't for lack of effort, according to a recent survey of 60 hospitals and health systems by Mellon Consultants. Nearly half of hospitals polled sought to boost revenue--or at least hold steady--by improving billing, coding and collections.
