The American Medical Group Association, Alexandria, Va., said it added 30 medical groups and about 5,000 physicians to its membership this year, slightly above the rate of growth in 2003. The AMGA, representing most of the nation's largest medical groups, now has total membership of 257 groups with about 70,000 physicians. In the past three years, the AMGA's group membership has grown about 13% and the number of physicians represented is up nearly 25%. Eight medical groups dropped out during that period, the association said. AMGA President and Chief Executive Officer Donald Fisher said the group exceeded its goals in 2004. The typical AMGA member has about 260 physicians and 13 satellite medical facilities. -- by Michael Romano
