University Health System, San Antonio, Texas, named George Hernandez Jr. its new president and chief executive officer effective Jan. 1. Hernandez will take over from Jeff Turner, who announced in August that he would be leaving the county-owned system. Hernandez, 52, will be the 604-bed hospital's first Hispanic CEO. He currently is executive vice president and second-in-command at University Health, the primary teaching hospital for the University of Texas Health Science Center . -- by Paul Barr
