Investor-owned MedCath Corp., Charlotte, N.C., and not-for-profit Novant Health, Winston-Salem, N.C., have agreed to a partnership to provide mobile cardiac catheterization lab service to four hospitals in North Carolina and Virginia.
John Casey, MedCath's chairman and chief executive officer, said the company expects to sign more partnership deals like the one with Novant, a seven-hospital system. When Casey was hired as CEO last year, he said the heart-hospital operator would grow through partnerships with not-for-profit hospitals.
Just last week, MedCath closed its heart hospital in Milwaukee, leaving the company with 12 such hospitals. The company this week reported operating profits for the quarter and year ended Sept. 30, but net losses for both periods because of interest and refinancing costs.
