Of the 23,681 physicians entering residency training programs in 2003, one-fifth were non-U.S. citizens, according to data from the Association of American Medical Colleges' Center for Workforce Studies. The number of non-U.S. citizen international medical graduates is based on estimates from the American Medical Association.
