Coventry Health Care, Bethesda, Md., promoted Shawn Guertin, its senior vice president of finance, to chief financial officer. He replaces Dale Wolf, who will become chief executive officer after Allen Wise retires as president and CEO at year-end, as announced last month. Meanwhile, Coventry Chief Operating Officer Thomas McDonough will assume the role of president and oversee the pending $1.8 billion acquisition of First Health Group Corp., signed last week. Francis Soistman, president and CEO of HealthAmerica, Coventry's Pennsylvania HMO, was promoted to executive vice president of health plan operations and assumes responsibility for the company's existing businesses. Harve DeMovick was promoted from senior vice president to executive vice president of customer-service organization and chief information officer. All management changes take effect Jan. 1.
