Craig Keyes, M.D., the chief executive officer of the New York division of UnitedHealthcare, will be the new CEO of UnitedHealthcare of Colorado, the company announced today. He replaces Vic Lazzaro, who retired after five years as CEO.
Also, Chris Binkley will resign as CEO of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Colorado to work with the national Kaiser Permanente group on union negotiation, electronic medical records and membership growth. A replacement has not been named.
UnitedHealthcare, the second largest healthplan in the state, has 523,324 members while Kaiser ranks third with 416,591, according to Jim Hertel, publisher of Colorado Managed Care, an industry newsletter.
"Both of them are solid plans," Hertel said.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Colorado is the market leader with 827,951 members.
