Central DuPage Health Integrative Medicine Centre in Geneva, Ill., offers alternative treatment options and a holistic approach to medicine that combines practices adopted from around the world.
The outpatient center's design incorporates feng shui's five elements of earth, fire, metal, water and wood, and features 15-foot ceilings painted blue with stretched white rectangles designed to cover mechanical equipment.
"This project has a warm and comfortable feel that transports the patient from the stresses of everyday challenges and promotes the healing process," says judge Ray Grady.
Judge David Brems liked the design's attention to detail. "I'm really attracted to this project, its warmth and humanity," he says. "East meets West successfully in this design."
The center has seven treatment rooms, a radiology room, two meditation rooms, a movement studio, a dressing area, offices and a reception/library/cafe area.
"There is an elegant simplicity in this project," says judge Rebecca Lewis.
