Memorial Hermann Children's Hospital, Houston, has named physician Steve Allen, 52, as its new CEO. Allen had been chief medical officer at Memorial Hermann Hospital, which houses Children's, since 1996. He replaced former Children's CEO Jim Salyer, who retired in July. Allen is currently the only physician CEO within nine-hospital Memorial Hermann Healthcare System and the first-ever at Children's. ... He has significant experience in healthcare, including a stint as chief restructuring officer at HealthSouth Corp., Birmingham, Ala., for about a year after the company's accounting fraud scandal broke. ... Dede Spitznagel has been hired by Trinity Health, Novi, Mich., and Catholic Healthcare Partners, Cincinnati, to establish a joint lobbying office in Washington. Spitznagel had served as executive vice president of the Health Leadership Council. ... HealthSouth Corp. has named Mark Tarr, 42, president of inpatient services. Tarr, who was vice president of inpatient services, will oversee 103 rehabilitation hospitals, 184 inpatient-based outpatient centers and nine long-term acute-care hospitals.
